Note from the surgeon

I was so grateful to the surgeon for willing to operate on Nook with a platelet count of 3 when every other doctor here told me that he needed to be at a platelet count of 50 before anyone would touch him and even if they did they would have to convince their backup surgeons that it was a good idea. I wrote him a thank you note. His cautious reply reminded me that it was too early for jubilation, still a small victory compared to the real problem and that the journey ahead is still long. I am reminded of my favorite poem:

Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
BY ROBERT FROST

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound’s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

The last 3 lines - that's what resonates with me - that's how I feel....
